A Simple Resolution

It has been a handful of years since I made New Year resolutions. I typically save them for my birthday in June because that’s when MY new year really starts. However, the popular practice got me thinking and I came up with this simple resolution—I resolve to be HAPPY.

Being truly happy is an ambitious resolution and can take a lifetime to achieve, but I came up with a few ideas:

  • Stay single. Having a readily available +1 to cuddle up with is nice, but I'm going to conquer the fear of loneliness and be my own best companion. A movie-dinner date for one please!
  • Pick up a hobby. I got a sewing machine for Christmas and signed up for my first sewing class. Let’s see what comes out of it. Perhaps I can bring back the scrunchies!
  • Strengthen mutual relationships. Much of my happy memories are centered around the people I spent time with. To create more happy ones, I'm going to spend more time with people I care about AND with people who care about me.
  • Rebuild my finances. The past few years have been financially taxing with legal fees, medical bills and increased cost of living. While having all the money in the world won’t solve my problems, but knowing that I have a rainy day fund to fall back on will allow me a peace of mind.
  • Stop procrastinating on my life to-do's list. I need stop sitting on the passenger side, stop waiting for tomorrow and stop hoping for things to change. I just need to go for it, like getting back in shape, start working on my PMI credentials and traveling more.
What are your New Year resolutions?
