If I was to write an autobiography, I would title it “Blessed.”
One of the many things my mom taught me is to make good out of a bad situation. "If the sky falls, just pretend it's a blanket," she would say in Chinese. And that's what I've reminded myself more than ever to do this year.
So much bad has happened this year, from my mom's death, Gabe's layoff, to me being diagnosed with uterine fibroids again. These events have forced me to slow down even more, reflect more deeply, and count my blessings early.
My mom's premature death reaffirmed the importance of family. I'm blessed to have such a close and loving family—immediate and all 50+ extended of them. I’m also blessed by my family of good friends, off- and online, who has been there to listen patiently, support unwaveringly, and laugh together over life’s little ironic and cheesy moments.
Gabe's unexpected layoff reaffirmed my commitment to him as a life partner. I'm blessed to have such a loving and patient husband. I’m also blessed to have the opportunity to support him, as he has continued to do for me, to accomplish his dream and passion of becoming a full-time photographer and fashion show producer.
Me having fibroids again, even larger this time, reaffirmed the fact I do want to start a family. I'm blessed to know there's still a chance, even if it's going to be a high-risk pregnancy.
There are many more blessings to be counted, but I’ll save it for my book.
But this Thanksgiving, I want to say THANK YOU. My life is blessed because you’re a part of it.
Happy Thanksgiving!
