Wedding Bliss

David, a friend and former co-worker at GLG, and his beautiful bride, Carina, were married on Sunday, August 10, at The Golf Club at Newcastle, in Newcastle, WA. The wedding was beautiful with sunny blue skies in the mid 70s. The ceremony and reception had a perfect combination of traditions, touching moments and laughter. As the coordinator (and guest), I felt the wedding was a success. Yes, I know, I'm bias.

It was another Chinese wedding where my broken Cantonese was put to good use. (Thank you Mom and Dad for the years of Chinese school and letting me watch all those HK movies and serials.)

The stress of coordinating handful of simultaneous activities, resolving unexpected issues, choreographing a nervous wedding party, herding wedding guests, and juggling vendors and helpers actually invigorates me. I truly enjoy the challenge of running around with high strappy heels (kill the feet but they match the outfit!) to make sure the last tea light candle is lit, the flowers are in place, the background music isn’t too loud, the couple get in their desired photos, the cake is served before guests leave, and the wedding gifts goes home with the couple.

It may seem like a lot of work, as it involves planning and meetings prior to the day-of, especially without the monetary rewards. (Maybe one day this could be a pay gig?) It’s all worth it though, when I know I’ve played an important role in a friend’s special day. Besides, no matter at what age, 31 or 13, it always feels nice to know you made somebody’s day.

Congratulations to David and Carina!
