Wow, I can't believe I'm really doing this. Blogging. This social networking thing that my industry (advertising/marketing) has been talking about for years. After many attempts (and bribes) from friends, I've managed to stay away (for now) from Friendster, mySpace and Facebook. So, why start blogging? Why now?
Well, you know how some folks reflect and make resolutions around New Year's? I did that for as long as I can remember, but I don't think I've ever successfully resoluted anything. (Yes, I do make up my own words.) I've never lost that 15 pounds, worked out 3x a week, ate any healthier, drank any less (alcoholic beverages, I mean), gotten rich, etc. etc. However, my husband, a rebel in his own ways, reflected not on New Year's, but on his birthday. When I heard about it, I thought to myself, "Brilliant!" I mean, having another birthday is a great scare tactic to get things done. It's like "Oh, shit! I'm now XX-years-old and I've got nothing to show for it." Or, "Oh, shit! I have XX years left before I'm 40 (or 50 or whatever). I better get a move on whatever I want to accomplish." So, since my last birthday (30th for those who are keeping track), I've started doing that and I've been successful so far. Some of it has to do with having more realistic goals too, I'm sure.
As my 31st birthday approached (last week), I did a lot of thinking about what I want to accomplish this year. And blogging came to mind. It made perfect sense, in my head anyways, as I've loved to write journals growing up, and hoped, like Anne Frank (without the tragic ending) have them be "discovered" and "published." Once again, being more realistic these days, I know if folks ever did "discovered" my journals, no one would find them even remotely fascinating. Not enough to publish, anyways. Perhaps a few chuckles and then have them thrown out to nearest recycling bins. With blogging instead, people can "discover" my blog, chuckle, forget about it, and then go on with their day, without adding more physical crap to this precious Earth. (I'm just doing my part to be Green. Aren't you proud, Al Gore?)
Another reason I thought blogging was a great idea is the fact I love observing and sharing life's little amusements. I attribute it to the Gemini, the messenger, in me. With family and friends around the world, it's not easy keeping in touch, even with advanced technology. I hope my blog will serve as a place for folks to catch up with the latest of my life. And even become this portal into my psyche, where folks can assess for themselves, "How sane is she, really?" :)
With that, I do hope folks do come back and check out my blog regularly. You may learn new things about me, like how I'm sarcastic, ironic, pointless, humorous, serious, passionate or how I just enjoy enjoying life. You may even find yourself referenced in my entries. I also encourage folks to post comments, thoughts, questions. It's nice to know that people are actually reading my blog.
So, Happy reading and Happy Birthday to me! :)

I dunno if it'd help others, but an occasional email reminder with a link to this place every so often would be helpful to me personally!
